Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins revealed that an animated spinoff series based off the two Wonder Woman movies could be on the horizon.

While speaking to Empire, Jenkins said that Wonder Woman's island home of Themyscira could return in a new animated TV show. She offered no other details on the possible animated spinoff project, including if it would involve new or previously-established characters. Additionally, an Amazon spinoff film is being considered that would be "part of the in-world story of Wonder Woman."

If this show came to pass, it would not be the first time the world of Wonder Woman made its way to the small screen. Lynda Carter starred as Diana Prince in the 1970s live-action series, and the Amazons have appeared on numerous occasions in the DC Animated Universe (DCAU) and DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU).

Before any animated spinoffs get off the ground, the next foray for Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman will be the live-action feature film Wonder Woman 1984. The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie recently updated its release date to October 2020 after previously moving it from June to August. Both of the film's reschedulings were due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film arrives in theaters on Oct. 2.
