Wonder Woman 1984 premiered in domestic theaters over the weekend and scored a less-than-ideal CinemaScore rating from moviegoing audiences.

According to CinemaScore, Wonder Woman 1984 garnered a B+ CinemaScore from audiences, a grade that's mighty familiar to DC Extended Universe titles. Previously, Suicide Squad, Justice League and Birds of Prey all received B+ CinemaScore grades. By contrast, the original Wonder Woman garnered an A CinemaScore rating, one of only two DCEU movies (alongside Shazam!) to achieve such a distinction.

After its Christmas Day debut, Wonder Woman 1984 received mixed reviews from critics, with its Rotten Tomatoes score dropping drastically from 90% upon its early release in December, to 65% which effectively lost the film its Certified Fresh rating.

Premiering both in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day, Wonder Woman 1984 performed quite well at the domestic box office. Opening to $16.7 million from 2,100 theaters, Wonder Woman 1984 scored the biggest domestic opening for a movie since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic began. The majority of those ticket sales came from private watch parties, with more than 10,000 private rentals sold via AMC, Cinemark and other theater chains. Private watch parties retailed for approximately $100 and accommodated between up to 20 people.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film is now available in theaters and on HBO Max for free to subscribers for one month. After that period, the film will be available exclusively in theaters until it is released digitally via home paid video-on-demand services.
