With 2020 nearly upon us, the upcoming year is going to bring a number of high-profile blockbuster films with female leads. In fact, according to a new poll, female superhero films are topping lists of most eagerly anticipated movies in the new year.

2,000 millennials were surveyed by Fandango in the final weeks of December on films and performances they looked forward to the most in 2020. Taking the top spots were Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Widow, respectively, while Eternals and the live-action remake of Mulan rounded out the top four. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and Fast & Furious 9 similarly made the list of most anticipated 2020 films.

Gal Gadot and Scarlett Johannsson both topped the list for most anticipated female performances for their respective superhero films, while Chris Pine topped the list for most anticipated male performance for his return as Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman sequel, surpassing Daniel Craig's return as James Bond in No Time to Die.

In terms of villainous performances, Kristen Wiig's Cheetah topped the list, while Rami Malek's masked Bond villain Safin took the number two spot.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord and Natasha Rothwell. The film opens June 5, 2020.

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour as Alexei aka The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz as Melina. The film opens May 1, 2020.
