The upcoming Disney+ Wonder Man series announced that one of its working titles will be "Callback."

Per The Cosmic Circus, this title may be in reference to Simon Williams/Wonder Man's civilian identity as an actor, with the term being used in the profession to refer to the second round of auditions for a role. This supports rumors that the show will fully incorporate the character's backstory as an actor and stuntman, and that it will parody Hollywood and the film industry.

Executive producing the project will be Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton, who was also tapped to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, as well as the currently untitled Shang-Chi sequel. Andrew Guest, who is best known for his work on comedies such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community, will be co-creating the series with Cretton and serving as head writer. Guest is not new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he served as a consulting producer on Disney+'s Hawkeye. He will also reportedly be bringing fellow former Brooklyn Nine-Nine writers Madeline Walter and Paul Bradford Welsh on board, both of whom have extensive comedy credits.

Wonder Man Gets a Working Title

The actor who will lead the series as Simon Williams/Wonder Man has not yet been announced, although fans are still campaigning for actor Nathan Fillion to step into the role. Director James Gunn cast Fillion in the role for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, although the scene, which would have featured posters for Simon Williams movies across a range of genres, was ultimately cut. While deleted scenes are not typically considered canon, Gunn has stated that he considers the posters to be canon and hopes Simon Williams will "rise again." Fillion went on to voice the character in Hulu's M.O.D.O.K, which is not connected to the MCU.

One cast member for the series has been confirmed so far -- Sir Ben Kingsley will return as fan-favorite former actor Trevor Slattery. Trevor first appeared in Iron Man 3 (2013) as a down-on-his-luck actor from London hired by Aldrich Killian to play the role of the terrorist known as The Mandarin. After one-shot All Hail the King (2014) hinted that he was in danger from the real Mandarin, Trevor would not appear again until 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, imprisoned by the real Mandarin, Shang-Chi's father Xu Wenwu (Tony Leung), and performing monologues to entertain his men. The capacity in which Trevor will appear in Wonder Man is currently unknown.

A release date for Wonder Man has not yet been announced, but the show will stream on Disney+.
