Marvel's X of Swords event introduced new characters into the X-Men franchise, most notably the Swordbearers of Arakko. One of the standouts was Solem, who quickly found himself in a rivalry with Wolverine. After not being seen since X of Swords concluded, Marvel is bringing Solem back with an origin story in July's Wolverine #14.

CBR has an exclusive look at the cover and solicitation for Wolverine #14 by writer Benjamin Percy and artist Adam Kubert, which kickstarts "The Unusual Suspects" story arc. "Solem was one of the breakout stars of the X of Swords crossover, and I'm excited to partner up with Adam Kubert for his return to the spotlight," Percy told CBR. "Not only are we going to get an origin story -- for a character you could call the Loki to Wolverine's Thor -- but we're going to learn about all the delicious trouble he's been up to since we last saw him. This three-part mystery/thriller -- called "The Unusual Suspects" -- has so many twists in it that your neck will snap."

WOLVERINE #14

  • THE UNUSUAL SUSPECTS!
  • Stolen goods. A torched ship. A missing sword. Wolverine’s on the case, but what mind games is Solem playing?
  • The new X-villain comes into his own in this arc!

Solem made his Marvel debut in Wolverine #6 by Percy and artist Viktor Bogdanović, which was Chapter 3 of X of Swords. He was quickly billed as Wolverine's new arch-nemesis, and as Percy said, "the Loki to Wolverine's Thor." Their first encounter involved Wolverine and Solem both traveling to Hell in order to obtain the Muramasa Blade. Solem struck a deal with Logan, allowing the X-Man to take his Muramasa Blade for a price that he would look to cash in on at a later date. Whereas Wolverine has Adamantium lacing his skeleton, Solem's skin is Adamantium-enforced.

Wolverine #14 goes on sale in July from Marvel Comics.
