Thanks to the scope of the Marvel multiverse, there can be countless unique variations of every major hero in the universe. While many of them have similar motivations or characteristics, the most unexpected variant is often the most compelling. Such as the most cartoonish take on the X-Men's iconic Wolverine saving the entire multiverse.

Wolvie who appeared at the heart of the 2018 Exiles series (by Judd Winick and Mike McKone) is one of the most ridiculous versions of Wolverine in the entire Marvel multiverse. But just like Spider-Ham, the cartoonish silliness that defines them also makes them shockingly powerful.

There have been multiple versions of the X-Babies over the years, typically a collection of Mojo-created copies of the most iconic mutant heroes. One of the most important incarnations of the team was the versions of the characters who lived in an idyllic world where they settled into a simple, low-stakes life. The X-Babies were defined by their cartoonish nature, with even Wolvie proving to be a sweet-natured goofball compared to almost every other variant of Wolverine. He was also the only survivor of his world when the Time-Eater, a Galactus-empowered version of Kang the Conqueror, came upon Earth-32518 and consumed it. Wolvie survived thanks to the unexpected intervention of Blink, a multiversal survivor and the leader of the reality-hopping Exiles.

Blink was able to recruit Wolvie for their mission to protect the multiverse from threats like the Tribunal of Watchers and the Time-Eater. Wolvie in many ways operates as the X-Men equivalent of Spider-Ham. Both are fun variants of classic heroes whose personalities contrast against their mainstream incarnations. While the comics' version of Spider-Ham is far more sardonic than even the usually pretty sarcastic Peter Parker, Wolvie is friendly and optimistic. He even spent most of his fight with Kang, a multiversal threat, trying to convince him that he really just needed a friend to overcome his dark side.

X-Men Exiles Wolvie Spider-Ham 3

This makes Wolvie an effective peace broker at best, and a useful distraction at worst. Coupled with his sweet personality, his other main attribute is a kind of durability that seems to even go past what most versions of Wolverine can muster with their healing factor. Wolvie's cartoonish nature, like with Spider-Ham, makes him a surprisingly tough figure. He can take a lot of hits and not feel any real pain because he's designed to be kind of a joke character. However, if he's involved in a dangerous situation, having those "joke" abilities make him an unexpected weapon. During his battle with Kang, the villain amassed enough power to wipe out anyone from existence. But Wolvie simply ignored each seemingly lethal blast, popping back into existence with ease, respawning in a way that only a cartoon character can.

At best, Kang could only imprison him in a cage of energy, and even then Wolvie was able to break loose and continue to fight. His capabilities might come as a surprise due to his innocent nature, but he's actually an incredibly capable figure -- albeit one who would rather share hugs than trade punches. But in a multiverse full of Wolverines who've either suffered difficult lives, lost countless loved ones, or embraced the more ferocious side of their personalities, it's nice to know that one of them is a happy-go-lucky ball of positive energy who just wants every reality to be friendly to one another.
