WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Power Pack #4 by Ryan North, Nico Leon, Rachelle Rosenberg & VC's Travis Lanham, on sale now.

When Power Pack returned to Earth, they found themselves in a situation they never expected. The team ended up on the run from the law enforcement officials in C.R.A.D.L.E. as fugitive underaged vigilantes.

For their entire lives, the Power Pack has operated as superheroes and they recently received training from the Fantastic Four while they were a part of the Future Foundation. However, upon returning from space, the young heroes learned that they had to find a mentor or they would end up locked up in the re-education center for underaged heroes. And in Power Pack #4, Wolverine helped give them te kind of mentor they've been looking for.

Power Pack letter to Wolverine

Power Pack set out to find a mentor but found nothing but rejection every step of the way. Captain Marvel was out of the solar system on superhero business. Thor was too busy running Asgard, and could not locate Frog Thor. They were told that the Hulk would not make a good mentor. They went to Deadpool but realized that was also a bad idea. Iron Man told them no and sent a fruit basket as an apology. Finally, they went to Agent Aether, who turned out to be a villain.

Power Pack was out of options until they remembered someone who owed them a favor. Jack reminded Katie of someone who told her that she would always have a friend to run to if she wanted. They thought about Wolverine, and the kids went to the mutant embassy (which was new to them) and left a note for him, saying they needed his help. Katie asked him to come to see them, and then they asked him to be their mentor. This relationship can be traced back to WOlverine saving the young team from Sabretooth in the original "Mutant Massacre" and their dynamic was put on center stage in the 2009 series Wolverine and Power Pack by Marc Sumerak, Gurihiro & Dave Sharpe.

That series started with a very young Power Pack showing up to assist Wolverine in a battle with Sauron. From there, Wolverine took the kids to the Xavier Institute to show them around before they had a fun trip to the past and a battle with ninjas. Through it all, they formed a bond with the mutant, and with their powers gone, The Wizard running free, and C.R.A.D.L.E. a constant threat, the Power kids went to the one superhero outside of the Fantastic Four they knew they could trust.

Wolverine in Power Pack

Wolverine turned out to be as reliable to the Powers as he has been for years to the X-Men. He showed up at their house, posing as the new tutor, and sat down to talk to Power Pack about their problems. While the kids wanted him as a mentor to get C.R.A.D.L.E. off their backs, Wolverine wasn't too sure about that. However, he did tell them that they shouldn't beat themselves up over letting someone get into their heads. This was a nice callback to their earlier meeting when Sauron controlled the kids for a short time to make them battle Wolverine. Unfortunately, he also doesn't believe he's the best mentor when it comes to advising children.

That won't stop him from taking them under his wing and helping them. Knowing how the Wizard has devastated the team of children, Wolverine has decided to stand alongside Power Pack. Julia and Alex then come up with a plan of action, and Wolverine adds his thoughts. After the youngest member of the team, Julie, has her say, Wolverine is all in and is ready to fight next to his young friends in Power Pack once again.
