A growing online petition has demanded that the iconic role of the mutant superhero Wolverine be taken over by Letterkenny star Jared Keeso in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Change.org petition was created by Letterkenny fan Christopher Atkinson, who called on decision-makers at Marvel and The Walt Disney Company to hear his casting ideas with regards to any Wolverine or X-Men reboots in the MCU. Atkinson wrote, "Watching a single episode of his show Letterkenny fully establishes how Mr. Keeso would be the perfect casting choice for Wolverine." To back up his suggestion, Atkinson offered the following reasons: "[Keeso] is actually Canadian. At 5'10", he's not overly tall. Already has years of experience playing a smoking tough guy. Already in damn good shape."

Neither Marvel, Disney nor Keeso have responded to what Atkinson referred to as "the only logical casting solution for one of the most recognizable comic book characters -- certainly within the X line." At the time of this writing, the petition has 3,887 signatures with the goal of reaching at least 5,000.

Supporters of the idea have also expressed their own reasons for approving the casting choice, with one commenter anticipating the potential rapport between Keeso's Wolverine and Ryan Reynold's Deadpool. Paraphrasing a popular catchphrase from Keeso's Letterkenny character, Wayne, in their reason for signing, one fan wrote, "Because I really really really want to see Logan say to Deadpool, 'I wish you weren't so fu(kin' awkward, Bub.'"

As the petition mentioned, Hugh Jackman has repeatedly said he will no longer be returning to the character of Logan/Wolverine whom he portrayed a total of twelve times, across nine films and three video games. After nearly two decades, his journey playing the adamantium-boned X-Man ended when the character was killed at the end of the 2017 film, Logan. No plans to replace or revive the character have been officially announced.

Beginning as a series of skits on YouTube, the Canadian comedy Letterkenny has now wrapped its ninth season. Throughout the production of the series, Keeso has worn many hats as a writer, showrunner and star of the sitcom, which follows the mundane yet absurd adventures of rural Ontarians.

Created by Jared Keeso, Letterkenny stars Keeso as Wayne, Nathan Dales as Daryl, Michelle Mylett as Katy, K. Trevor Wilson as Squirrely Dan, Dylan Playfair as Reilly, Andrew Herr as Jonesy and Tyler Johnston as Stewart. Season 9 is available to watch now on Crave and Hulu.
