The reveal came from Marvel's April 2019 solicitations, with the cover by Declan Shalvey featuring Wolverine on one side and Old Man Logan on the other, both with their signature claws drawn.
Old Man Logan is an older version of Wolverine created by writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven, and hails from an alternate universe where Wolverine was duped into killing the X-Men by the Spider-Man nemesis Mysterio. The other villains across the Marvel Universe would then go on to finally succeed in defeating Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The events of 2015's Secret Wars brought Old Man Logan into the Marvel Prime Universe, where he would rejoin the X-Men while also starring in his own solo series.
Marvel's Death of Wolverine by writer Charles Soule and McNiven killed the fan-favorite X-Man, leaving his cloned daughter X-23 to pick up the mantle in his absence. However, Marvel resurrected Wolverine for its Marvel Legacy #1 one-shot, meaning it was only a matter of time before Wolverine was introduced to his older counterpart.
The Dead Man Logan miniseries is set to be the final chapter in the Old Man Logan saga, and, much like the Logan movie, will focus on a dying Wolverine going on one last adventure, which also ties into the original story arc by Millar and McNiven.
"This is it. This is going to be the big, final Old Man Logan story," Brisson told Newsarama. "Logan's dying and still has a lot of unfinished business to attend to. Dead Man Logan will largely be Logan tying up loose ends -- loose ends like Mysterio, the man who, in Old Man Logan's timeline, caused him to kill all of the X-Men. That's not a box that Logan's going to leave unchecked."
