WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Wolverine #1 by Benjamin Percy, Adam Kubert, Victor Bogdanovic and Frank Martin, on sale Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Marvel Comics has taken its sweet time greenlighting a new Wolverine ongoing series, but the hero will finally get the starring treatment in Wave 2 of the X-Men's Dawn of X books. X-Force writer Benjamin Percy is teaming with artists Adam Kubert and Victor Bogdanovic in Wolverine #1, which will be split into two stories featuring each artist's talents.

Of course, the Marvel Universe hasn't been devoid of a Wolverine while Logan was deceased. His clone daughter, X-23, took up the Wolverine mantle in his absence, and Old Man Logan from an alternate timeline joined the Marvel Prime Universe in the fallout from 2015's Secret Wars. It took Old Man Logan a little while to get acclimated to a different world, but he soon made himself at home with his X-Men family.

The main sticking point in Old Man Logan's adjustment period came from what happened to the X-Men on his world. Old Man Logan was responsible for killing all of the X-Men after Mysterio tricked him into attacking them. Mysterio created one of his signature illusions that even fooled Logan's senses, making him believe the X-Men were a team of attacking supervillains. Thanks to Mysterio, Wolverine killed his family and the villains were able to finally gain victory over Earth's Mightiest Heroes, creating a dystopian future that played out in Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's original Old Man Logan miniseries.

Old Man Logan eventually died in the Dead Man Logan 12-issue miniseries, making way for Wolverine to reclaim his top spot as the X-Men's resident Adamantium-clawed Canadian. Unfortunately, CBR's exclusive preview of Wolverine #1 reveals the X-Man still can't escape his horrific Old Man Logan future.

The preview begins with Kubert's illustrated story, featuring a disfigured Wolverine waking up in the snowy fields of Alaska. His memory is hazy and his body is heavily damaged, with his Adamantium skeleton showing through the humongous wounds in his chest cavity and on his face. Once he gets to his feet, we can see Wolverine's healing factor kick in as his skin begins to repair itself. However, this isn't as traumatic as what's revealed on the next few pages.

Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Kid Omega (Quentin Quire) and Domino are also laying in the snow, torn apart in a similar fashion to Wolverine. With no movement coming from there, we are led to believe they are dead and Wolverine is the person who did the deed, perhaps in a berzerker rage similar to the act he committed in Old Man Logan.

Think about it -- Wolverine wouldn't harm any of his friends and teammates consciously. He would have to be manipulated into harming a hair on Jean Grey's head. No matter how hard he tries, Wolverine appears to always be haunted by his Old Man Logan demons. Is Wolverine really responsible for what takes place in the preview of his first issue, or is there more at play?

Thankfully, we only have a few more days until Wolverine #1 by Benjamin Percy, Adam Kubert and Victor Bogdanovic goes on sale to find out.
