One of Avengers: Endgame's directors has shared his thoughts on Wolverine potentially appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While appearing on the Lights, Camera, Barstool podcast, Joe Russo shared his thoughts on the clawed X-Man and how Hugh Jackman's performance as Wolverine still looms large over the character. "To realize him on screen, it's very hard because Hugh Jackman's performance is definitive," Russo said. "It's like Batman; you have to really think of a way to, you have to really find the right actor to come in and give a really different take to that character. But I would really love to see him on screen."

Russo also said that Wolverine would benefit from a break on the big screen. "I think the best thing is to take a break, without question," he added. "You need a [palate cleanser], you need to rinse the towel a little bit, let everyone enjoy what was, and then come up with something new. But I’d love to take a crack at Wolverine at some point."

Russo, alongside his brother Anthony, helmed four films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including two Captain America sequels as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The Russos' next film is Cherry, based on the novel by Nico Walker and starring Tom Holland. They are also set to helm The Gray Man  for Netflix, which is based on a series of novels and stars Ryan Gosling as a former CIA operative.
