With Wolverine getting his very own video game, some fans of Marvel's popular berserker have expressed concern as to whether developer Insomniac will tone down the character's iconic savagery. According to recent comments from the game's creative director, however, the claws are expected to be out in full force.Wolverine's creative director Brian Horton was recently asked by a user on Twitter about whether the game will be closer in size to Insomniac's PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man title or the Miles Morales expansion released in 2020. Horton responded to the user, not only promising that Wolverine will be "full size" but will also support a "mature tone."Related: Wolverine's Strongest Power Is Even More Impressive Than It Seems

Glimpses of this mature direction can be seen in the announcement trailer for Wolverine, which was shown during the latest PlayStation Showcase live stream. In the trailer, several of what appear to be either dead or unconscious bodies are shown strewn around a bar. A close-up shot of Wolverine's bloody knuckles is then shown before his signature adamantium claws pop out when he senses a still-breathing baddie approach from behind, brandishing a knife.

The Wolverine trailer contained several Easter eggs spotted by keen-eyed fans. With references made to the Princess Bar readers will recognize from standalone Wolverine comics, as well as "19.74" appearing on the cash register as a nod to the year Wolverine was created. Perhaps the biggest tease found was in reference to the Incredible Hulk. Wolverine fought Hulk during the mutant's full debut in The Incredible Hulk #181, which is referenced in the trailer by a license plate reading "HLK 181." Fans have speculated as to whether this confirms the Green Goliath's appearance in the upcoming game.

Players wanting a taste of what developer Insomniac Games brings to the Marvel universe can check out the studio's Spider-Man game and Miles Morales expansion on PS 4 and Ps 5. Both titles were generally well-received by critics who praised the games for their web-swinging mechanics and fluid combat, though disliked certain side-quests that some reviewers found to be monotonous.

For fans wanting to play as Wolverine, however, the berserker's next playable appearance will be in the upcoming tactical RPG Marvel's Midnight Suns from X-COM developer Firaxis Games. In that game, Wolverine will be one of a dozen Marvel heroes who players will be able to command as part of strategic turn-based battles in the fight against Lilith, the Mother of Demons.

Marvel's Wolverine is currently under development at Insomniac Games, and will release exclusively on PlayStation 5 at a yet-to-be-announced date.
