Throughout the time he played Wolverine for Fox, actor Hugh Jackman has always been vocal about his desire to see the X-Men join the Avengers on the big screen. Of course, the fact that Fox held the rights to the X-Men -- and the Fantastic Four, for that matter -- made that seem highly unlikely. Now, with Disney working on a deal to buy out a majority of Fox, that appears to be changing and despite Jackman stating he's done with the role, according to one Marvel Studios actor, he may be reconsidering it.
During a panel at Ace Comic-Con yesterday where he was joined on stage by Chris Evans (Captain America) and Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Winter Solider) revealed that he'd recently had a chance to speak with Jackman regarding the X-Men and Avengers possibly teaming up on the big screen. According to the actor, he wasn't sure what else to approach Jackman about so he brought up the looming deal and, to his surprise, Jackman seemed to suggest he he may not necessarily done with the role of Wolverine.
“Recently I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman. I didn’t know what other awkward thing I could talk about but to be like, ‘Am I going to see you soon?’ He said a couple of things to me and I’ll just leave it at that. Otherwise, I feel like I’m going to get into trouble with somebody.
I asked him though because I kept thinking whether or not Logan was supposed to be the last Wolverine thing or whatever and he said to me he’s been thinking about it and it’s been on his mind. So, I don’t know, he may be.”
This reveal by Stan comes after Jackman has reaffirmed he's done playing Wolverine and is eager to see someone else don the suit. However, while the actor seemed to be confident he was finished after Logan, it's worth stating Jackman has also suggested in the past that a deal between the two studios could bring him back at least one more time.
As it stands, while Disney and 21st Century Fox have struck a deal, there's still about an 18 month period until the deal is approved, meaning it's unlikely we'll see the X-Men join the Avengers anytime soon.
