X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Doctor Strange star Scott Adkins, who once played Weapon XI, hopes the merger between Disney and Fox will do the impossible: bring Hugh Jackman back to the X-Men franchise as Wolverine.
"I think it's great," Adkins said of the Fox/Disney deal during an interview with ComicBook.com. "I actually hope Hugh Jackman comes back to play Wolverine, if they're going to do that. [But] if he's had enough, then that's up to him of course. Maybe if you're going to [bring Wolverine back], you need somebody who's getting ready to do a bunch of more movies and not just a one-off."
While Adkins isn't alone in his desire to see Jackman reprise his X-Men role, Jackman has made it clear that Logan was the last time fans will see him wear the adamantium claws. In a recent interview, Jackman recalled how he wanted the X-Men and Marvel franchises to cross paths while he was playing Wolverine. "Like, I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head," he shared, adding, "Unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there."
Further, any official crossover between Marvel and Fox is still a long way off. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, it’s too soon to begin discussing a crossover; for now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will stay the course with the characters that have always been available to them.
