He's the best there is as what he does, and is arguably still one of Marvel's Comics most enduring and popular characters. Logan, aka Wolverine has spent decades dishing out Adamantium rage against Sentinels, Brood, and villainous mutants. Fans are used to seeing the X-Man leap into a berserker rage or rely on a strong X-Man like a Colossus to throw him for a patented "Fastball Special" like a fuzzy baseball full of angry razorblades and cigar smoke.

So, it's little surprise that fans might forget that besides unbreakable claws and a healing factor, Wolverine is also a master hand-to-hand combatant who knows virtually every martial arts on Earth, and apparently a few others not of this planet; there are definitely some martial arts he's trained in that should be highlighted.

10 Boxing

Known as the the sweet science, boxing is a martial arts that emphasizes quick head-movement, coordinated footwork, and powerful punches. It's little wonder that for his role as Wolverine, actor Hugh Jackman studied martial arts including reviewing early Mike Tyson fights. According to Jackman's study of Tyson, "There's something  about his style, the animal rage that seemed right for Wolverine."

Fans probably couldn't agree more, as Wolverine has had to use head movement, feet work and strong punches at time to overtake opponents. And fans also got the chance to specifically see Wolverine actually box in the 2009 Wolverine film, against Blob, but given the low critical reception of that film, it's understandable why fans remain quiet about anything to do with this film.

9 Bujinkan/Ninjutsu

When it comes to ninjas, Wolverine has faced and defeated countless number of them. The Hand, Marvel's major ninja organization in the comics, may as well have a picture of the mutant with the words "Avoid At All Costs." It would make sense that Wolverine has mastered the art of espionage in the ninja ways, as he's been able to successfully sneak up on opponents and friends.

And in one of the early X-Men issues that featured Wolverine on the team, he remarked to Storm that he likes going into a forest and sneaking up on a deer close enough to merely touch it. And, in X-Men (1991) Issue 21, while talking with Professor X, the Professor asks Wolverine if a recently returned and now, ninjustu taught Psylocke learned learned her new ninja ways from Wolverine.

8 Pressure Points/KyuSho Jitsu

KyuSho Jitsu is a martial arts that is based on knowing and attacking an opponents pressure points to hurt and debilitate them. And while Wolverine's attacks are usually more of the external variety, he has also been known use this form against opponents. He used his knowledge of pressure points to once simply knock out Kid Omega. But sometimes he can still get dirty.

For instance, when Captain America and Wolverine fought in the Wolverine Origins comic series, Cap had Wolverine on the ground, and while on top, crushed the tendons in Wolverine's wrists to stop his claws popping. In return, Wolverine attacked weakened points in Cap's right leg with a sharp knee to the inner thigh, which caused the Avengers' Leader to suffer a brutal massive hematoma in his leg.

7 Akido

Akido is a Japanese Martial Art known as "the way of harmonious spirit," which would makes sense for Wolverine to learn as an attempt to quell the rage inside him. Yet akido is also know for being a martial art that emphasis a variety of throws and joint locks, of which Wolverine definitely knows how to do.

Black Widow, who was also received some training from Logan, wrote a file on the X-Men for Nick Fury, in 2009's The Wolverine Files official handbook which stated that she has seen him perform akido. For instance, in his fight against Creel in Wolverine 164 (1998), as he's charged at, the X-Man effortlessly subdues his opponent, using Creel's momentum into a wrist lock.

6 Karate

Karate is a strike-based martial art, where fighters use punching, kicking, knee strikes and elbow strikes against opponents. Karateka's have studied on using effective open-handed techniques and striking vital points in the body.

Apparently, according to X-Men Adventures Issue 5, Logan uses karate to not only sharpen his martial arts prowess, but also to let off some steam as Jean walks in on the martial artist in the middle of a gi-clad solo session. It'd be interesting to see the X-Men break some wooden boards without the use of his claws.

5 Savate

wolverine with a high kick

Savate is a martials arts that actually began as a form of self-defense on the streets of Paris and Marseille. It's a martial arts that's kind of thought as French Kickboxing, as it's rooted on striking with punches and kicks. While it differs in Muy Thai in sport as knee and elbow strikes aren't allowed, back in its self-defense origins, anything was used, including headbutts.

Again, according to Black Widow, Wolverine knows savate, as she reported seeing him use it in the Wolverine Files (2009) in a letter to Fury. Wolverine isn't exactly the poster boy for graceful kicks, but there have been occasions where artists have drawn the mutant performing some incredible, yet powerful kicks.

4 Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is a martial arts that was created in order to handle Samurai without the use of a weapon. Usually the Samurai were armored, so strikes weren't thought of as effective, so the focus was shifted to the use of throws, joint locks, and pins. Today, it has evolved and even splintered into many other forms, but the principles of it being a grappling art still remain.

With Wolverine being thought of as modern Samurai with the rage of a beast, and his Japanese training from his master Ogun (more on that later), it makes sense that Wolverine knows this martial art, especially considering that in fights where he hasn't used his claws, he's aimed to subdue some of his opponents via grappling and literally throwing them. And given the Samurai origins of jiu jitsu, it's not far fetched to believe that Wolverine has used the martial art in quite a few scraps.

3 Kenjutsu

During his long life, before he wound up joining the X-Men, Wolverine took on the powerful, mutant ninja and swordsman, Ogun as a master. It's with Ogun, where Wolverine learned a great chunk of his martial arts knowledge, especially in the ways of the ninja, and kenjutsu, the art of Japanese swordsmanship birthed from the Samurai.

As far as a swordsman teacher, Wolverine could do worse, as it's said that Ogun battled with the legendary Miyamoto Musashi who is believed to have been the greatest Japanese Swordsman. Ogun's lessons certainly paid off when Wolverine trained with the Silver Samurai to relearn Japanese Swordsmanship. During the brutal lessons, where Logan had nothing but a broken bokuto to use, he managed to relearn everything in a matter of five days.

2 Krav Maga

Krav Maga is a hybrid martial arts known to be used by Israeli Special Forces. The martial art mixes brutal strikes and defense against weapons, chokes, and hold escapes, takedowns, and throws. This style is about ending a fight as effectively and quickly as possible.

Wolverine not only knowns this marital art, but has actually taught Kitty Pryde how to do it in Excalibur Vol. 85, where he obliterated a practice dummy while showing her the basics. Prodigy also learned the martial art from him as well showing that the X-Men don't just need their powers to kick butt.

1 Kung-Fu

Although it's only limited to fancasts, the idea of Keanu Reeves taking on the mantle of Wolverine in the MCU starts to make more sense considering Reeves' experience with Kung-Fu in the Matrix films, but Logan doesn't just know one form but 18 styles of Kung-Fu.

None of them are shown in front of his teacher Master Po during the beginning of Wolverine Manifest Destiny, who remarks that despite what he taught his student, he still chooses to charge wildly with his claws. Luckily the rest of Manifest Destiny gives fans a chance to see Wolverine in proper Kung-Fu action, depicting him in scenes that wouldn't feel out of place of a Shaw Brothers film.
