Dark Wolverine was a brief rebranding of the Wolverine solo series during the events of Dark Reign in which the feral mutant's son, Daken, adopted the costume and codename of his father and served as a member of Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers. He quietly manipulated the team at various points and remained a genuine wildcard on the team as they entered the following storyline, Siege.

But Daken almost took that aspect far enough to cause serious chaos in the Marvel Universe. In the story "Godlike," from Dark Wolverine #82 through #84 (by Daniel Way, Marjorie Liu and Giuseppe Camuncoli), Daken's chaotic nature ended up almost splintering reality and causing a premature Ragnarok.

The tie-in to Siege largely focused on Daken fully embracing his chaotic side as a member of the Dark Avengers. Unbeknownst to him, the Asgardian Fates were watching him closely and noted that he could bring about the fall of Asgard. While on the battlefield, an impulse from Daken results in him cheerfully stabbing Norman Osborn in the back and the face, prematurely killing the former Green Goblin in brutal fashion. But this proves to just be a vision from the Fates, who reveal that while Asgard was bonded to the Earth during the events of Siege, an Earthling would have to be the one to jumpstart the next Ragnarok cycle so that the eerie creatures could be fully resurrected.

Daken is shown a vision where his slaughter of the Dark Avengers sends the battle of Asgard into even further chaos and potentially sets off the new fall of the kingdom. While Daken is tempted to embrace the grisly possibility, his anger at being manipulated leads him to turn against the Fates. Ultimately though, they convince him to let the battle continue and grow even more chaotic -- which resulted in a heroic victory and eventual restoration of Asgard to its proper place in the stars.

Dark Wolverine Asgard Ragnarok 1

This wasn't the first time Daken had proven to be a serious threat. In Uncanny X-Force, Daken was able to help assemble a deadly new Brotherhood to target Wolverine and his allies. The ensuing battle came to a bitter end, as Logan ended up having to kill his own son in order to win the fight. Daken was then revived and made a Horsemen for the Apocalypse Twins, becoming a very dangerous adversary to the Uncanny Avengers.

Daken might have found some redemption with his family on Krakoa, but even there he's proven to be a dangerous and unpredictable figure, bragging to his new love interest Aurora during the Hellfire Gala that he had hunted down anti-mutant murderers despite the mutant society's law against doing so. Even as a hero, Daken is still a twisted killer, and a serious threat for anyone brave or foolish enough to stand against him.
