Here’s an unexpected addition to the cast of 20th Century Fox‘s third “Wolverine” solo film: actor and writer Stephen Merchant, as reported Wednesday afternoon by Deadline. No word yet on what role Merchant might be playing.
Merchant is best known as the co-creator of “The Office” — specifically the original British series which inspired the American adaptation — and as the star and creator of HBO series “Hello Ladies.” “Wolverine 3” marks a departure for Merchant, who is known for comedic projects; though he did voice Portal 2 in the video game “Portal 2.”
“Wolverine 3” — official title still to come — will star Hugh Jackman in what he’s said will be his last time in the title role, which he’s played since 2000’s “X-Men.” James Mangold, director of 2013’s “The Wolverine,” will direct the film and wrote a treatment, with David James Kelly writing the script.
The third “Wolverine” solo film is scheduled for release on March 2, 2017.
