David Slade and Robert Schwentke may have some competition in Fox's search for a Wolverine 2 director. Hugh Jackman and Darren Aronofsky worked together previously on the director's film-turned-graphic novel The Fountain, and Jackman is reportedly open to the idea of a reunion.
Slade and Aronofsky are currently the front-runners, according to sources speaking to Deadline. Both are said to have discussed the project with the sequel's Aussie leading man, but Slade's work on Eclipse and 30 Days of Night give him Comic-Con-friendly cache. That's not to say that Aronofsky's December release Black Swan won't buzz him into the lead a few months from now, but the two men offer very different styles to the mix, and neither looks much like the first film's director Gavin Hood.
The real question, however, is whether or not Slade's vampire-heavy résumé means the studio has been contemplating a Bloodscream story. And you know that if Bloodscream is involved, Albert and Elsie-Dee can't be far behind. Depending on your affinity for Wolverine continuity, this could be a great thing or a terrible thing.
