News of an upcoming The Witcher video game just isn't in the Gwent cards right now.

WitcherCon, the upcoming July 9 online event from game developer CD Projekt Red and Netflix, released a statement on its website dismissing this particular hype, writing, "In case you're wondering, no new Witcher game will be announced at WitcherCon, but there are still lots of reasons to tune in!" Instead, it teased a number of behind-the-scenes looks into the development of Witcher franchise adaptations like the games and show, as well as "interactive panels" with those who worked on the projects.

CD Projekt Red hasn't released a Witcher game since 2016's Blood and Wine, the acclaimed DLC pack to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The Witcher 3 follows Geralt of Rivia as he attempts to track down the whereabouts of Princess Ciri across the Continent before the Elven Wild Hunt. The game received critical acclaim upon its release and is widely regarded as one of the best games and open-world titles of the last decade. Aside from The Witcher, CD Projekt Red also released the polarizing Cyberpunk 2077 in late 2020, which was heavily criticized for various glitches, gameplay issues and performance drops on last-gen consoles, resulting in the company receiving multiple class-action lawsuits.

Netflix's The Witcher series completed production on Season 2 at the beginning of April, following more than a year of delays caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Its new cast will include a number of established characters from The Witcher franchise, including Wild Hunt leader Eredin, King Vizimir of Redania and Geralt's fellow Witcher Lambert. In addition to Season 2, The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel series set more than a millennium before the show's events, is currently in production.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 2 has yet to receive a premiere date.
