Fans of Netflix's The Witcher were largely enamored with the newly released trailer for Season 2, but many are taking issue with the trailer's soundtrack. The trailer features a verse from "Monster," by Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Bon Iver. While the song's title is certainly on-brand for a show about a monster-hunter, however, fans argue that the hip-hop track doesn't mesh with the fantastical world of The Witcher.RELATED: The Witcher Unleashes The Leshen In A Stunning, Hi-Res Photo

Music is certainly an important element of The Witcher franchise. In addition to the now-infamous "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" tune from Season 1, the music from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (by Marcin Przybyłowicz, the Brandenburg State Orchestra, Robert Jaworski and Percival) was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition at the 19th-annual D.I.C.E. Awards and Excellence in Musical Score at the 2016 SXSW Gaming Awards.

Season 1 of The Witcher premiered in December 2019, featuring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia and covering the events of Andrzej Sapkowski's first two books in the series, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. Season 2 will delve into the first core Witcher novel (the previous two books were collections of short stories), Blood of Elves. Cavill recently explained that fans can also expect Geralt to fully embrace his parental role to Ciri, saying, "While he hasn't necessarily been someone who craved children, he does take quite naturally to being a protector. What I'm trying to do is bring [out] more of that intellectual, philosophical, wise Geralt."

Beyond Season 2, The Witcher will expand with Season 3, a new anime, the Blood Origin spinoff and a mystery project geared towards younger audiences as part of showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich's overall deal with Netflix. " am so thrilled to have found my home at Netflix, and can’t wait to continue what’s been an incredibly fulfilling creative partnership," Hissrich said at the time. "While my heart belongs to The Witcher Franchise, I equally look forward to digging in on other exciting projects for their global audience in the years to come."

Season 2 of The Witcher debuts Dec. 17 on Netflix.
