The Witcher Rides In With New Trailer - And A Release Date

The Witcher's new trailer finally reveals what fans have been waiting for: a release date.

In addition to confirming the show's December 20 release date, the action-packed trailer places a massive responsibility on Geralt, the titular Witcher. "Princess Cirilla is your destiny," he is told. "If you dismiss it, you will unleash true calamity upon us all." That proclamation is inter-cut with scenes of explosions, a massive battle and blood-soaked characters, which ups the stakes for the Witcher and his world.

The upcoming dark fantasy series is based on the novel series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The tale follows the witcher known as Geralt of Rivia -- a member of a mutated, mystically trained order of professional monster hunters -- as he travels the Continent and finds himself caught in conflicts that could reshape the world around him.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. The series will be available to stream on Netflix starting December 20.
