Netflix's The Witcher: Blood Origin is currently filming in the United Kingdom, where details from the upcoming prequel series have been spilling quite regularly. One of the most recent and most exciting is the inclusion of a character with a major connection to both the main series and Andrzej Sakpowski's novels.

According to Redanian Intelligence, The Witcher: Blood Origin has cast British actor Claire Cooper as Aevenien, who -- in Sapkowski's novels -- is the mother of none other than Ithlinne, the legendary elven oracle first mentioned in Blood of Elves, known by most through Ithlinne's Prophecy. Not much is known about Aevenien herself, which gives The Witcher: Blood Origin free rein on her story.

It should be noted that Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher cast actor Ania Marson as Ithlinne some time ago, suggesting that the character will make an appearance in the show. In the novels, Ithlinne Aegli aep Aevenien was a renowned prophetess who predicted a the Northern Wars, the Witch Hunts and other major events. Her most famous prediction is known as Aen Ithlinnespeath, and describes an apocalyptic event, the White Frost, that will eventually bury the Continent under glaciers.

Netflix recently announced the full cast for The Witcher: Blood Origin, and it confirmed an appearance by another major novel and series character. Aside from Laurence O'Fuarain as Fjall, Sophia Brown as Éile and Michelle Yeoh as Scían, the prequel series will also feature Jacob Collins Levy as Eredin, also known as the king of the Wild Hunt.

Jason Brown and Sean Daniel from Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Platige Films will all serve as executive producers along with The Witcher: Blood Origin showrunner Declan de Barra, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Matt O'Toole. The upcoming limited series will contain six episodes, directed by Sarah O'Gorman and Vicky Jewson.

The Witcher: Blood Origin explores the distant past of the Continent, some 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher, in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event known in the novels as the Conjunction of the Spheres-- an interdimensional event that saw entire worlds collide, leaving the Continent populated with monsters, humans and magic. The show's official description also teases the arrival of the Continent's very first witcher.

Before Blood Origin, fans will be treated to the premiere of The Witcher on Dec. 17. The series stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
