In The Witcher 3, quality armor can be hard to come by, and most sold by merchants or armorers can be generic and low level. However, Geralt may be able to craft Witcher's Armor, which offers high protection levels and combat bonuses, along with unique bonuses for wearing a full set. Wearing at least three of the pieces will allow up to three different oils to be applied to a sword simultaneously, with a bonus for six pieces being that bombs are thrown without delay.

To complete the Witcher's Armor, the player will need to unlock the services of Yoana, the Master Armorer located in Crow's Perch, then find the diagrams for the armor and their upgrades. From there, players will have to find and complete the Wolf School Armor, from initial base gear to Mastercrafted level. Along the way, though, they'll find upgrades for the silver and steel swords.

Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear

The Witcher 3 Wolf Gear Hunt

To begin the hunt for the Wolf Gear, buy the Slightly Torn Notes by Hieronymus, purchasable from Lindenvale's Blacksmith. They will reveal there are six diagrams in total: four armors and two swords, all located in Kaer Morhen. The armor diagrams are located in an unmarked location, an old signal tower south of the Kaer Morhen signpost. As you climb to the tower, you will encounter a few Erynias that may attack. Climbing over the wall and up to the first level, you will find Hieronymus' notes in a chest, telling you to check the Ruined Watchtower and Bastion for the sword diagrams.

Examining the portal nearby, you will find it is missing a crystal, which is located on the outer wall of the tower. Activating it and the portal with a crystal already on it will spawn a portal that can be jumped through. You will find yourself in a cave, where you must fight a wraith. The skeleton on the ground will have the diagrams for the base armor, boots, gauntlets and trousers.

Crafting Advice

The Witcher 3 Wolf Gear Crafting

For crafting and upgrading the Wolven Armor, the components are obtainable but somewhat expensive. The main component in the clothing is Meteorite Silver Ingot, created from a Meteorite Ingot and Silver Ingot. Buying one from the armorer costs 482 crowns, so by the time a few are bought per piece of armor, the set can easily cost around 5000 crowns in total, so consider crafting them instead if you don't want to break the bank.

As expected with Witcher's armor, there are monster components needed to craft. Most of these are generic such as Monster Eggs, Feathers and Claws, which can be dismantled from several monster sources such as Harpies, Griffins and Nekkers. There are a few instances where the player will need to source out specific monsters for the component, such as the Cured Draconid Leather, as it requires Chitinous Shells.

Upgrade Diagrams - Part 1

The Witcher 3 Wolf Gear Hunt Part 1

The Wolf School Gear Part 1 focuses on upgrading the boots, armor and silver sword from the base version to enhanced, all located in Velen. To get the location markers, buy the well-preserved notes from Éibhear Hattori, providing he is now a blacksmith. The silver sword will be located inside the well in Crow's Perch; climb down the well in the Baron's garden and you'll find a chest with the diagram in it.

The armor diagram will be located on an unmarked island south of Fyke Isle amongst a collapsed ruin. It can be time-consuming to search the large number of chests in the water, especially with the added risk of being attacked by drowners. The easiest way to find the diagram is to stand where the wolf marker is, face south and use the Witcher Senses to look down; a highlighted chest should show.

The diagram for the boots is found in the Grotto in eastern Velen. Heading inside and taking either path will end up in the same chamber, but the chest will be easier to find if you take the left path, as it's located just on the right as the player enters the chamber.

Upgrade Diagrams - Part 2

The Witcher 3 Wolf Gear Hunt Part 2

The Wolf School Gear Part 2 focuses on upgrading the base gauntlets, trousers and steel sword to enhanced, all of which are again located in Kaer Morhen. To get the location markers, buy the slightly torn notes from Lindenvale's blacksmith. The steel sword diagram is located in the Ruined Watchtower in a chest up on one of the scaffolding.

The trousers diagram is located on a small island northeast of Lakeside Hut. The chest with the diagram is actually located in the water in the south direction between the island and mountain. There is a known bug with this quest where the trousers diagram may not show on the quest log, or the quest may complete if you get the other two diagrams first, but the chest with the diagram in it will still be available.

For the gauntlets diagram, there is a cave in the Kaer Morhen Valley in a southeast direction from the castle. When the player enters the cave, there will be a ledge to the main chamber and the chest is located here, partially hidden by plants.

Upgrade Diagrams - Part 3

The Witcher 3 Wolf Gear Hunt Part 3

For The Wolf School Gear Part 3, you'll be upgrading the armor, steel and silver sword to superior. All the upgrades are located in Skellige; to get the location markers, buy the damp, moldy notes from Kaer Trolde's armorer.

The silver sword diagram is southeast of Arinbjorn in some unmarked burial mounds. In one of the mounds, the chest is on the left as you enter. The steel sword diagram is on Hindarsfjall in ruins southwest of Lofoten. After defeating a hostile ice troll, the diagram will be found underground in a room with toxic gas that needs to be cleared with Aard or Igni.

The armor diagram is found at Fort Grymmdjarr in an unmarked ruin. There will be harpies or possibly some bandits that you need to clear first. The chest is located on a ledge, so the player will need to circle the outside of the fort until they can jump over a wooden barrier beside a tower, then follow the fence along until you reach the chest.

Upgrade Diagrams - Part 4

The Witcher 3 Wolf Gear Hunt Part 4

Upgrading boots, gauntlets and trousers to superior is the goal of The Wolf School Gear Part 4, with all the diagrams located in Kaer Morhen. To get the location markers, buy the heavily faded notes from the Hierarch Square's armorer.

The trousers diagram is found in a cave northwest of Kaer Morhen. After defeating some Nekker Warriors and a Devourer, you will find the chest behind some stalagmites. This is also an interesting cave as the player will see the first apparatuses and mutagen bottles used to create Witchers. The gauntlets diagram is found at the Iron Mine. After killing the Earth Elemental in the main room, the diagram is seen on a small altar near the hidden tunnel.

The boots diagram is one of the more difficult diagrams to find. It is located in a cave east of the Kaer Morhen signpost, so swimming is the easiest way to reach it. Heading down the drop to the lower level, the chest will be located on the wall to the right behind some stalagmites and the player might have to fight some Endrega Warriors and Endrega Workers in the cave.

Upgrade Diagrams - Part 5

The Witcher 3 Wolf Gear Hunt Part 5

The Wolf School Gear Part 5 focuses on the armor, steel and silver sword upgrades from the superior version to mastercrafted, all located in Velen. To get the location markers, buy the worn-out and faded notes from Éibhear Hattori.

To get the steel sword diagram, the player will have to swim or sail west of Byways to the sunken treasure marker. The wolf marker will be located in the captain's cabin, but the chest is below deck, so swim downstairs. The silver sword diagram is located at a hidden treasure marker southwest of Kimbolt Way. Looting a corpse near the wooden door will reveal a key and some notes. The door can be unlocked with the key, with the chest inside. There will be a fiend guarding the area, but it is possible to quickly grab the key and chest without disturbing it.

The armor diagram is southeast of Byways at some unmarked elven ruins. The chest for the diagram is located at the lower levels of the ruins in a fountain. If the player moves too close to the chest at the top of the ruins, wraiths will appear as they are due to spawn in relation to the guarded treasure.

Upgrade Diagrams - Part 6

The Witcher 3 Wolf Gear Hunt Part 6

For The Wolf School Gear Part 6, you'll be upgrading the boots, gauntlets and trousers to mastercrafted, the diagrams for which are all located in Skellige. To get the location markers, buy the notes on parchment from Kaer Trolde's armorer.

The gauntlets diagram is located in a ruined fortress near Boxholm. There is a powerful fiend Morvudd guarding the area in relation to the Contract: Missing Son. If the area is clear, you can climb up the northeastern wall near some containers; the chest is located leaning against the tower.

The trousers diagram is located on Spikeroog at the Old Watchtower. Killing off the bandits that have set up camp, Geralt can look around and should see the required chest on a ledge. Positioning him just below the chest then jumping up should be enough for Geralt to climb it.

The boots diagram is found on Undvik in the Dorve Ruins. At the ruins, head to the southwest corner outside and there should be the chest between two walls, with a tree blocking it from one side.
