Winchesters Look to Close Gates of Hell in New Supernatural Trailer

The CW has released the first full-length trailer for the eighth season of Supernatural that not only reunites Sam and Dean Winchester -- they were separated once again in the season finale -- but also lays out the show's new direction. It seems the prophet Kevin has uncovered a new Word of God that includes some information that may be important.

"Closing the Gates of Hell forever?" Dean says, demonstrating that a year in Purgatory has done nothing to soften his sarcastic tone. "Yeah, that could be important."

As much as I love Supernatural, I confess that the seventh season lost me (the Leviathans, the death of Bobby, whatever was going on with Cass), so I'm happy to see the overarching story moving in a new direction. Plus, it seems likely we'll see much more of Mark Sheppard as Crowley, and that's always a good thing.

Supernatural returns on its new night (Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT) Oct. 3.
