Ron Howard said a sequel series to Willow is in "very active development" for Disney+.

In an appearance on Radio Andy on Sirius XM, the Willow director said  story meetings regarding a series have him "very optimistic" that the show will be given the green light. "I was in a two-hour story meeting last night," he explained. "The writer, Jon Kasdan, is leading the charge, they have a great group of writers and it's in very active development."

In 2018, Howard revealed there had been "a little talk" about a Willow sequel. However, he gave an update on the series -- announced in May 2019 -- in an interview at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. "We are developing Willow for Disney Plus," he said. "And I don’t know about directing or not, but Jon Kasdan is writing, he’s very passionate about it, great job. We don’t have a green light yet, but if it goes, I’ll certainly want to roll up my sleeves and be a part of that, because that would be great, to revisit that world."

Directed by Ron Howard and written by George Lucas and Bob Dolman, Willow stars Warwick Davis, Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley and Jean Marsh.
