When William Shatner asked his Twitter followers on Aug. 1 to send photos of themselves giving the famed Vulcan salute, he wasn't merely testing his social-media influence. No, the "Star Trek" icon had a specific purpose in mind: a tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy.

On Sunday, Shatner revealed a Spock mosaic composed of more than 6,000 selfies, created for GISHWHES, an annual charity scavenger hunt organized by "Supernatural" actor Misha Collins.

Shatner said the image has been submitted for consideration for a Guinness World Record, but doesn't say which one.

Nimoy passed away in February at age 83.

Why did I ask for all those #LLAP selfies? For a @gishwhes task as a tribute to Leonard. Thank you! pic.twitter.com/3NQZ5siINe— William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) August 9, 2015
