Veteran actor Willem Dafoe and Scream 4 co-star Nico Tortorella are in negotiations to join Odd Thomas, director Stephen Sommers' adaptation of Dean Koontz's popular novel.
The supernatural thriller stars Anton Yelchin as a 20-year-old short-order cook who can see the spirits of the dead. Odd’s first adventure, in the 2003 novel Odd Thomas, involves finding the killer of a young girl and averting a disaster that threatens the small desert town of Pico Mundo, Calif. Addison Timlin has been cast as Stormy Llewellyn, the manager of an ice cream shop whom Odd views as his destiny.
Heat Vision reports that Dafoe will play police chief Wyatt Porter, a sort of surrogate father to Odd who knows the young man can commune with the dead. Tortorella, meanwhile, is set to portray an officer working under Porter who's secretly a member of a Satanic cult determined to destroy the town.
The Fusion Films production, with a budget of $20 million to $30 million, will shoot in New Mexico later this spring and summer. Sommers, who also wrote the screenplay, is producing along with Fusion's John Baldecchi and Howard Kaplan.
