Will Smith Circling Role In Tim Burton’s Live-Action Dumbo Film

by  in Movie News Comment

After starring in the supervillain team-up movie “Suicide Squad” and a string of adult dramas (“Concussion” and “Collateral Beauty”), it looks like Will Smith may be interested in getting into the family film game. Deadline has reported that Smith is eyeing a role in Disney’s live-action “Dumbo” feature film, which will be directed by Tim Burton.

The live-action “Dumbo” would be the latest in a long line of live-action remakes of classic animated Disney films. “The Jungle Book,” “Cinderella” and “Alice in Wonderland” have all received the treatment, and “Beauty and the Beast” will follow this year. Additionally, “Mulan,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Cruella De Vil” and pretty much every other Disney classic are in various stages of pre-production.

It was announced in March 2015 that Tim Burton would be behind the upcoming live-action “Dumbo.” Burton also kicked off this live-action trend with 2010’s “Alice in Wonderland.” The film doesn’t yet have a release date, but Disney did snatch up five release dates for projects spanning July 2017 to December 2019. Tim Burton will direct “Dumbo” from a script by “Transformers” film franchise screenwriter Ehren Kruger.
