Add one more possible hurdle on the path towards Avatar 2: director James Cameron is reportedly considering a trip to Egypt with Cleopatra before returning to the lush world of Pandora.
Deadline reports that Cameron is seriously considering directing Angelina Jolie in Cleopatra for Sony Pictures Entertainment. Brian Helgeland’s screenplay, adapted from Stacy Schiff’s novel Cleopatra: A Life, has been described by Sony chief Amy Pascal as a “brilliant script deserving of epic treatment” all about “what the Romans took from Egypt.” Jolie is reportedly “anxious to make the movie” because “she knows she was born to play this part.”
According to the report, the 3D Cleopatra film is the only outside project that Cameron is seriously considering as a directing vehicle. On his own slate, the filmmaker has plans for Avatar sequels, the long gestating Battle Angel Alita and a project called The Dive.
