Arnold Schwarzenegger is all about two things these days: revisiting former roles and teaming up with his fellow action superstars. If a rumor posted on WWE Examiner is true, he'll be doing both with Terminator 5. The site reports that Dwayne Johnson just might appear in the latest installment of the future-robots versus humans epic.
According to the site's sources, the script is being developed with an eye toward teaming the long-time franchise member with the busiest action star in the business. WWEE even got a potential story description, although one that's very clearly labeled as speculation at this point:
A source close to the project says one idea being considered for the film could throw fans of the Terminator franchise for a loop. According to the scenario outlined, T5 may be a prequel set in the days of Sarah Connor's parents, marking the first time terminators have been sent back in time to kill a character that existed before both John and Sarah Connor.
Incredibly, Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger's remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today's standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.
Note that this rumor doesn't quite fit with Schwarzenegger explaining earlier this month that he will star as the Terminator in the film.
While the two heavyweight actors haven't starred in a film together, Schwarzenegger did a ceremonial changing of the guard with Johnson in the 2003 Peter Berg film The Rundown in which the elder statesman passed Johnson's Beck character in a club saying "Have fun."
