Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua may be riding in to save MGM's long-gestating remake of The Magnificent Seven.

Deadline reports the two, who worked together on Training Day and the upcoming adaptation of The Equalizer, are in very early talks to join the Western, about a small town that hires a group of mercenaries to protect it from bandits.

In 2012, MGM announced that True Detective mastermind Nic Pizzolatto was penning the script. Tom Cruise was attached to star for a while, but dropped out late last year. At the same time, Maleficent writer John Lee Hancock was tapped for a rewrite.
