WARNING: The following contains spoilers from "The Long Con" in Batman: Urban Legends #4, by Matthew Rosenberg, Ryan Benjamin, Antonia Fabela and Saida Temofonte, on sale now.

Grifter of the Wildstorm Universe has continued to make a meaningful impression on the current DC Universe. Working alongside one of the Caped Crusader's greatest allies, the most human member of the Wildcats fits in perfectly within the world of Gotham City. His newest adventure, however, brings in more associates from both the DC and Wildstorm Universes.

After being kept from defending Lucius Fox because of Deathstroke and Superman in Batman: Urban Legends #4, Grifter calls on the help of both the sword-wielding Zealot and another WildCAT. This hints at more Wildstorm characters being incorporated into the DC Universe in general, bringing the '90s characters back into the limelight.

WHO IS ZEALOT?

Grifter Zealot

After the sword-wielding Kherubim alien warrior was teased earlier on, Zealot finally makes her Post-Rebirth debut as she helps Grifter out with his new official job. During a staged altercation with Deathstroke, one which Slade Wilson was being paid to fake, Superman shows up in order to apprehend Grifter. Cole tries to make his getaway on a nearby motorcycle, but the Man of Steel is on his heels and barely trying. Hoping to make his escape, he communicates with one of his associates in the hopes of being teleported away.

Beforehand, Grifter had been called to do his actual job of protecting Lucius Fox, who was nowhere near Cole's location. His being hunted down by the Last Son of Krypton, however, prevents him from getting to the event that both Lucius and Bruce Wayne were attending. Said event is suddenly attacked by crooks, but before they can take anyone out, they get hacked and slashed by Zealot of the WildCATs. Zealot makes it clear to Fox that she's helping him on Grifter's behalf since he's not there. Quickly eliminating the threat, she jumps off of a balcony before making it clear that she hates the name Zealot.

ENTER VOID

WildCats Void

It's also worth noting that another unseen Wildcat, Void, seemingly teleports Grifter to and fro during his escape attempts from Superman. Void was another classic member of the WildCATs, though unlike most of them, she wasn't a Kherubim or related to that alien species. She was born as Adrianna Tereshkova, a Russian cosmonaut who came into contact with the mysterious Orb of Power. This fused her with the cosmic entity known as the Void, granting her immense power over her surroundings. The most common way for these abilities to manifest themselves is in her being able to teleport herself and others where she wishes.

Void does just that during the story's climax, though she's only able to get it right after a previous failed attempt to get Grifter out of danger. She's not seen in the issue herself, with Zealot being the only other WildCAT to get some sort of spotlight. Grifter does, however, mention Jacob Marlowe, another Wildstorm character. Marlowe was once the Kherubim Lord Emp, and he becomes the financial backer and founder of both the Halo Corporation and the Wildcats.

What's most interesting is that all three of the Wildstorm heroes have the article "the" added to their titles, making them seem more like professional codenames than superhero titles. This suggests that when the rest of the team finally shows up, they'll fittingly be a lot less heroic than the familiar faces of the DC Universe.
