An early look at WildC.A.T.s shows Nightwing left completely confused by a crime scene the team leaves behind.

In a preview for the new series' first issue written by Matthew Rosenberg and drawn by Stephen Segovia, Nightwing/Dick Grayson and Batgirl/Cassandra Cain arrive at a H.I.V.E. laboratory, but when they get there, all that is left are dead bodies and chimpanzees. Some bodies have gashes made by swords and knives (while another is decapitated), and the body of Dr. Tremont is found with a gunshot wound in his head. After crashing through the ceiling, Nightwing says aloud, "Greetings, my friendly neighborhood terrorist cell, we're here to... what the Hell happened here?"

The WildC.A.T.s had been in the facility mere seconds prior, specifically Grifter/Cole Cash, Zealot/Zannah and Deathblow/Michael Cray. While Zealot and Deathblow are busy taking out H.I.V.E.'s agents, Cole tells one of them about a millennia-long war between two alien races, the Kherubim and Daemonites, saying that H.I.V.E. is working for the latter. The team's mission was to retrieve Dr. Tremont from the facility, but after seeing his experimentation on chimpanzees and witnessing the doctor murder one with electricity, Cole decides to kill the scientist instead.

  • Spinning off from the pages of Batman comes a senses-shattering new series! The HALO Corporation has gathered a motley crew of operatives, led by Cole “Grifter” Cash, who are going to make the world a better place…no matter who they have to kill! Working in the shadows of the DC Universe, this new covert team has been tasked with gathering an elite group of scientists for the first phase of their plan…but the Cats’ mysterious leader, Void, might have other plans!

According to solicitations for the title, H.I.V.E. will not be the only group that the WildC.A.T.s face in their new limited series. The team is eventually going to trade blows with the Court of Owls, Gotham's secret society comprised of the city's wealthy elite and murderous Talon assassins. The WildC.A.T.s are going to be in pursuit of multiple scientists other than Tremont, but the reason they are needed remains a mystery as of writing.

The First WildC.A.T.s Series in 12 Years Is on the Way

DC Comics' new WildC.A.T.s series is the team's first title in twelve years, its previous run lasting 30 issues total and ending in 2010. The team was created in 1992 by Jim Lee and Brandon Choi for Image Comics, though it became a main title of Lee's WildStorm Productions. When the last WildC.A.T.s series came to an end in Dec. 2010, so did WildStorm, the studio merging completely with DC Comics along with the characters from its WildStorm Universe.

WildC.A.T.s #1 is written by Rosenberg, illustrated by Segovia, colored by Elmer Santos and lettered by Ferran Delgado. Main cover artwork is by Segovia and Santos, with variant cover artwork contributed to by Lee, Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair, Stanley "Artgerm" Lau, Ben Oliver, Jeff Spokes, Alan Quah, Dan Hipp, Brett Booth, Sandra Hope and Andrew Dalhouse. The issue goes on sale Nov. 8 from DC Comics.
