WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 5, "On a Very Special Episode...," now streaming on Disney+.

In last week's episode of WandaVision, both Wanda and fans were given a shock when Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver appeared at the end of the episode, once again alive. But rather than Aaron Taylor-Johnson returning to the role, Pietro was played by Evan Peters, who portrayed the character in Fox's X-Men films. According to series creator Jac Schaeffer, there was a reason why the show chose to use Peters instead of Taylor-Johnson.

"We loved the idea of [bringing him back],” Schaeffer told Marvel.com regarding bringing Pietro back. "And then we were like, how in the world are we going to make this make logical sense? Like, how do we justify this? Because that's the thing, you can hatch a million great ideas, but to make them land, to make them be grounded, to make them feel organic to the larger story." Schaeffer and executive producer Mary Livanos were dead set on making this idea work.

"This show is such a mind scramble, and because it's working on so many levels, and there's so many notions of what's real and what's not, and performance, and casting, and audience, and fandom, and all of that, we just thought it would be the biggest thrill to bring Evan over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe," Schaeffer stated.

Schaeffer further added that the team thought about how they would give Peters his entrance before making it crazy. "And we had long had the idea of the trope of the brother, or the relative, or whoever comes to town and like, stirs things up with the family — that sitcom trope," she continued.

Peters' take on Quicksilver first appeared in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Peters would reprise the role in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse and 2019's Dark Phoenix, in addition to cameoing as the character in 2018's Deadpool 2.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
