In 2002, actor Tobey Maguire played Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the beloved Marvel hero's solo film. From there, Maguire reprised his role two more times before Sony eventually opted to reboot the franchise, casting Andrew Garfield in the same role. Garfield's time in the role was short, and he was soon replaced by Tom Holland, who is set to reprise his role in a third Spider-Man movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, with the MCU bringing the multiverse more to the forefront, Marvel Studios has an opportunity to bring Maguire back to a Spider-Man movie. In this video, we're going to explain just why Maguire should return to play Uncle Ben in Spider-Man 3.

First appearing alongside Peter in 1962's Amazing Fantasy #15, Uncle Ben is a key figure in the Spider-Man mythos. His death is a major part of why Peter opts to become a hero after gaining his powers. However, the MCU hasn't actually gone into much detail about Ben or his death, which occurred prior to Spider-Man's debut in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Thanks to the multiverse, though, Spider-Man 3 has the potential to do more with Uncle Ben than ever before.

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, it's not totally clear just what shape the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take. While there's a good indication the characters that Disney acquired from 21st Century Fox will soon arrive, there's not much solid information on just when or how that might happen. Right now, there are a lot of potential directions the MCU could take going forward, though exactly which one it will take remains to be seen.
