The director of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law says that story changes caused the length of Season 1 to dip from a previously announced 10 episodes to nine.

In an interview with The Direct, Kat Coiro said she was glad Marvel bosses gave her the luxury of not being bound to a set number of episodes per season for the Disney+ TV series, saying that the story arc and any necessary changes to it determined how long the season would last. "One of the most amazing experiences I've had as a creator and as an artist is Marvel is not bound by the same rules as, you know, other TV shows that have to be 22 minutes. And the story really dictated the length of the season," she said. "And so as the story came into focus and as we started putting the pieces together, it landed at nine. It could’ve been eight, it could’ve been eleven. And it’s the same with the length of the episodes. There isn’t a number you have to hit. It really is, 'What’s best for this episode,' which, in my opinion, is how it should be."

Coiro also said that the process behind the show allowed for natural chemistry on the set including unscripted post-credit scenes, leaning into the strengths and weaknesses of their actors to let them loose when the opportunities presented themselves.

Looking Back at She-Hulk's First Season

Even with the lost episode, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has had a relatively long first season. Its nine episodes share the record with the 2021 miniseries WandaVision as the longest live-action Disney+ series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Most of the MCU entries airing on Disney+ in the past two years have run six episodes each, and will continue to do so with many of the shows in its upcoming series slate.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Emmy-winning Canadian actor and Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany as the comedy's titular character and her alter-ego Jennifer Walters. The show also features Jameela Jamil as Titania, Renée Elise Goldberry as Amelia and Josh Segarra as Pug. Coiro directs the show from a script written by Emmy-winning scribe Jessica Gao.

The Season 1 finale of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law aired on Oct. 13, 2022, and all nine episodes can now be streamed on Disney+. A second season of the show has not yet been announced.
