The X-Men character Magneto is trending on Twitter, but for reasons that have nothing to do with the premiere episode for Marvel Studios' Loki series.On June 8, the Ohio House Health Committee reviewed House Bill 248, which would prohibit institutions like businesses, hospitals, colleges, nursing homes, day-care centers and insurers from requiring, incentivizing or "otherwise requesting" their employees and customers to get vaccinated, reported WTOL11. Among those who gave testimony during the five-hour hearing were Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, a Cleveland-based physician who repeatedly raised unfounded claims about the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine causing such "horrendous side effects" as deaths and strokes in those who take it.At one point, with no evidence to support her, Tenpenny asserted vaccinated people become essentially magnetized, stating "They can put a key on their forehead, it sticks." This led to Magneto trending on Twitter as many ridiculed the relevant clip from her testimony while expressing their mock disappointment the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine had failed to give them super-powers like the infamous X-Man.[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/OmariJHardy/status/1402584754923376640[/EMBED_TWITTER]
Following Disney's purchase of Fox's film and TV assets in 2019, Marvel Studio regained the rights to use the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the studio has yet to reveal its mutant-related plans for the future, it did cast Fox's Quicksilver actor Evan Peters to play what ended up being a fake version of Wanda's brother Pietro, AKA Fietro, in WandaVision. Prior to that reveal, several viewers speculated the show would also feature an appearance by either Ian McKellen or Michael Fassbender as Magneto from Fox's X-Men movies. (For those not aware, Magneto is Wanda's father in Marvel's comic books.)
Head writer Jac Schaeffer subsequently admitted she had never planned to include Magneto in WandaVision, stating "As a viewer, that's not what I would want out of this series." What's more, Marvel Studio has yet to signal it has any intention of incorporating the X-Men into its Phase 4 film and TV slate, be it in Loki or elsewhere.
