It's been about seven years since the last episode of Magi: The Kingdom of Magic was aired in 2014. Seven years without a direct continuation or answers to all the mysteries the anime left behind. Despite the long gap in content fans are still craving more Magi. The anime quickly captured the attention of fans with its unique setting and thrilling adventure. With only two seasons of the main series and a one-season spinoff, Magi: Adventure of Sinbad, there has not been nearly enough Magi. The main series of Magi both needs and deserves a third season to continue the stories of Aladdin and Alibaba and here are a few of the best reasons why.

A New Setting to Anime

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is largely based on the stories of 1001 Arabian Nights. Both the characters and the setting take heavy influence from famous characters and stories like Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp, Sinbad the Sailor, and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. The Arabic influence also inspires beautiful landscapes of dazzling oases, elaborate temples, and harsh deserts. This setting is somewhat unique among fantasy anime, which tend to pull aesthetics from medieval Europe or feudal Japan. The world of Magi feels fresh and explores a diverse array of cultures.

There's Nothing Like a Good Dungeon Crawl

The primary way that the characters of Magi get their powers and advance in strength is through treasure hunting in magical castles. All across the world, there are fantastical and dangerous dungeons full of hordes of wealth guarded by a Djinn. Once a treasure hunter has gained the allegiance of the Djinn they are granted a powerful magic item. Because each dungeon and Djinn is unique there are always new and bizarre creatures and powers appearing in the story.

Touches on Dark Topics

Magi is a bit more mature than your average high profile shonen anime. The story isn't shy about exploring some of the more sinister elements of its setting. One of the main characters, Morgiana, was kidnapped as a young child and sold into slavery. Another main character, Alibaba, was born into poverty and watched his mother die of an illness. Even though the series acknowledges the dark aspects of the world, the story never becomes dark for darkness' sake. All of the events feel grounded and nothing is forced for the shock factor.

The Manga is Complete

The original manga, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, that the anime was based on was completed in 2019 with 369 chapters. Since only two seasons of the manga were adapted, about fifty percent of the story remains to be told in the anime. This means there is plenty of original material left to be adapted for the anime. Fans wouldn't have to worry about unnecessary filler episodes or the plot straying away from the source material. The rest of the manga of Magi is just waiting to be turned into an interesting and action-packed anime.
