While WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were each headlined by a pair of Marvel superheroes, the upcoming Loki is a solo outing for its titular God of Mischief. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed why Loki was the first to lead his own show.

"He's been around for thousands of years. He had all sorts of adventures," Feige told Entertainment Weekly. "Wanting to fill in the blanks and see much more of Loki's story [was] the initial desire [for the series]." Feige also said that a major impetus for creating the show was simply a desire to see "more Hiddleston, more Loki."

Tom Hiddleston first debuted as Loki in the 2011 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) title Thor. From there, Loki became a fan-favorite who made memorable follow-up appearances in a pair of Thor sequels, as well as The Avengers. While the original iteration of Loki met his end in Avengers: Infinity War, a new incarnation of Loki, still played by Hiddleston, was introduced in Avengers: Endgame. This new version of the character will serve as the central focus of Loki.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard E. Grant. The series premieres June 9 on Disney+.
