Bruce Banner/The Hulk has had a pretty incredible journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First appearing in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, where he was played by Edward Norton, Bruce became a key member of the Avengers in that team's eponymous 2012 movie. However, there's good reason to believe Hulk might end up becoming a villain in the future -- and it's all due to the Illuminati. In this video, we're going to explain why and how Hulk might break bad.

After getting beaten up by Thanos in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, Bruce found himself unable to access the Hulk, forcing him to instead use Hulkbuster armor during the Battle of Wakanda. However, at some point during the five-year time jump between Infinity War and 2019's Avengers: Endgame, Bruce and Hulk had merged into one being. This new Hulk proved integral in undoing the snap and defeating Thanos once and for all, but he was horribly injured in the process as a result of the Infinity Gauntlet, which may be a key part of why he could turn into a villain in the future.

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, it's not totally clear just what shape the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take. While there's a good indication the characters that Disney acquired from 21st Century Fox will soon arrive, there's not much solid information on just when or how that might happen. Right now, there are a lot of potential directions the MCU could take going forward, though exactly which one it will take remains to be seen.
