Elektra Natchios has been through quite a journey in her existence. She went from Matt Murdock's college girlfriend to an assassin tasked with killing Daredevil to dead to back to life to doing all kinds of superhero stuff. Trained as a ninja, Elektra is a deadly fighter, using her preferred weapon, the sai, with skill and aplomb. Beyond being a member of Daredevil's supporting cast, she has been all over the Marvel Universe, working with all kinds of heroes and S.H.I.E.L.D. Her popularity has waxed and waned over the years, but she's still a great part of the Marvel Universe.

Not everything about Elektra makes sense, though, and this list is going to take a look at those things.

10 She's A Greek Ninja

Right off the bat, Elektra being a ninja doesn't make a whole lot of sense. A martial artist? Sure, that's believable. A ninja? That's where the whole thing stretches credulity. Somehow, Elektra gets involved with a bunch of secret martial arts societies, with no one to vouch for her, and then is trained as a ninja. How?

Frank Miller had a thing for ninjas (it was the '80s after all, and they were in vogue), but Elektra's status as a ninja was always kind of nonsensical.

9 Her Time With Wolverine

Wolverine elektra

After Wolverine's adamantium skeleton was removed, it was revealed that his body was mutating and that he was becoming more feral and would eventually completely lose his humanity. This happened, and for some reason, Stick, the mentor and trainer of both Daredevil and Elektra, sent Elektra to Wolverine to teach him how to be human again and deal with his mutation.

Huh? Why would Elektra be good at this? Sure, she could teach Wolverine discipline... but Wolverine actually has way more martial arts experience than her. It doesn't make very much sense for her to have been involved at all. That said, Larry Hama made the whole thing work and it was actually pretty cool.

8 That She Was Able To Beat Wolverine

Wolverine elektra

During Mark Millar's "Enemy Of The State/Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D." story, Wolverine was killed and resurrected by the Hand and Elektra was sent by S.H.I.E.L.D. to take him down. While under the Hand's mind control, Wolverine was extremely formidable without any of the inhibitions he used to have.

During the story, Elektra was somehow able to take down Wolverine. Now, mind-controlled heroes are never as good as they would be if they weren't mind-controlled, but does anyone believe that Elektra would ever have a chance against Wolverine?

7 She Still Tried To Kill Daredevil After Finding Out His Identity

Elektra and Matt Murdock were in love in college. Their relationship didn't end because either of them did something wrong or they had a falling out- it ended because Elektra's father was killed and Elektra just kind of dropped out of the world and vowed revenge.

She would become an assassin and come back to New York. She eventually clashed with Daredevil and in one of their fights she learned his secret identity. After this, she would still try to kill him as Kingpin's assassin, which doesn't make a lot of sense when one factors in that Matt Murdock is the love of Elektra's life. In fact...

6 Her Time As Kingpin's Chief Assassin Doesn't Make Sense At All

Elektra would move up and become one of the foremost assassins in New York City, getting the attention of the Kingpin. He would eventually make her his head assassin, which would cause her to clash with the man that she loved constantly and also put her squarely in the sights of Bullseye, which would lead to her death.

This one is a corollary to the last entry, but definitely deserves its own entry. Why would she take a job as Kingpin's chief assassin, knowing it would put her in a position to be constantly going against the man she loved? Because of her prior relationship with Matt, it completely messed up a lot of her missions.

5 She Gave The Scorpio Key To The Man Who Killed Her Father

Elektra would work for S.H.I.E.L.D. on several occasions. Her skills made her an ideal agent for the organizations, so Nick Fury would hire her to accomplish missions where he needed plausible deniability. One of these missions had her going after the Scorpio Key.

She would eventually retrieve it but refuse to give it to Fury, believing he couldn't trusted with the weapon. Who did she give it to? The guy who killed her father. Her rationale was that he owed her and could somehow be trusted. Huh? A guy who helped kidnap the Greek ambassador and killed him is more trustworthy than Nick Fury? Okay, Elektra.

4 That Time She Was Hired To Kill Domino

The identity of the Red Hulk was a big mystery for a long time. The first person to discover it was Domino, who watched General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross transform into Red Hulk. He would hire a team of assassins to take her down, one of whom was Elektra.

While Elektra still took a lot of assassin jobs at this time, they were usually pretty legit. Ross was working on his own during this period and for Elektra to take a job like this doesn't make a lot of sense at all, especially because of Domino's relationship with Elektra's mutual friend, Wolverine.

3 Her Time In The Pleasant Hill Prison

During Avengers: Standoff! it was revealed that S.H.I.E.L.D. had a secret supervillain prison in a town called Pleasant Hill. They were using Kobik, the sentient Cosmic Cube to control all the prisoners, giving them new personalities and appearances. For some reason, Elektra was there.

It has been years and years since Elektra was anything close to the villain. The closest to being a villain she's been in a while was all revealed to be because of a Skrull impersonating her, so why was she incarcerated? It makes so little sense that no one has even tried to explain it.

2 The Reason Behind Her Mind Powers

Elektra readying her weapons - Marvel Comics

Over the years, Elektra has demonstrated some mental abilities - she's been able to possess people, move objects with her mind, communicate telepathically, and has limited precognitive dreams. Now, seeing as how some of her training was from a group of magical ninjas, none of this is nonsensical. It might seem like it, but when one is dealing with magic ninjas, anything is possible.

The weird part is that it was eventually established that she could do all of this because her brain had "strange morphology," whatever that means. She's not a mutant or anything like that, she just has a strange brain that somehow gives her mental powers. This is one of the few times magic ninja abilities make more sense than whatever pseudo-sciencey explanation was given.

1 Why She Became An Assassin At All

Elektra Impractical Costume

After Elektra's father's death, she would drop out of college and train in martial arts to become an assassin. Does this make any sense? Now, yes, Elektra had already killed people up to this point, but they were rapists. It would make sense for her to train in the martial arts so she could get revenge on her father's murderers, but to become an assassin? Yeah, that's ridiculous.

This is definitely one of those times when it's all about narrative convenience, trying to position the character in a place where she could confront Matt, but there are better ways to have done that.
