There's been a lot of speculation that the Dark Avengers are finally making their way from the comics to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier gave us our best hint yet that the team is indeed coming. In this new exclusive video, we're going to go into just how the MCU is setting up the Dark Avengers and what that means for the franchise going forward.

Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato Jr., the Dark Avengers first appeared in 2009's Dark Avengers #1. The team itself was formed as a response to the Skrull Invasion, which was part of the Secret Invasion event. One of the biggest hints that the Dark Avengers are coming to the MCU is then that there are currently plans for an adaptation of Secret Invasion, though details about the project are scarce at this time. In the comics storyline, though, Skrulls replaced some of the most prominent and important characters in the Marvel Universe in a bid to gain power -- and it nearly worked.

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, it's not totally clear just what shape the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take. While there's a good indication the characters that Disney acquired from 21st Century Fox will soon arrive, there's not much solid information on just when or how that might happen. Right now, there are a lot of potential directions the MCU could go in the future, though exactly which one it will take remains to be seen.
