SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "The Virgin Gary," the Season 4 premiere of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

Last March, The CW announced Matt Ryan would return as John Constantine for a series regular role in Legends of Tomorrow Season 4. The Season 4 premiere made good on that promise by laying the seeds for Constantine to jump aboard the Waverider. After he helped the Legends take down a bloodthirsty unicorn, Sara extended an invitation, only for him to reject her offer. However, a new circumstance soon arose that will likely change his attitude.

Before Sara even had the chance to ask, he turned her down with an emphatic no. "You need me to join the Legends, despite knowing that needing me always causes somebody trouble," he explained with a smirk. "Look, you and I are friends, and I like friends. Friends are useful, but roommates... See, Sara, I would rather bloody cut myself than move in with you lot."

Sara didn't have much to say in response to that. She simply stood and headed for the door with a "See you around, John." He waited until she was gone to say, "So long, Sara," and took another swig of his drink.

Though he considered himself done with the Legends, the episode wasn't quite done with him yet. As he emerged from the shower with only a towel around his waist, Constantine was subjected to a supernatural attack that launched him all around the apartment. At one point, his body even began to contort as he was pinned to the floor. Eventually, the attack waned, but not before his invisible assailant scrawled a message across his broken mirror: "I'm coming for you, Johnny."

The implication here, of course, is that this attack will change Constantine's mind about Sara's offer. He will likely board the Waverider as a means to protect himself; time travel and the Legends themselves could provide some sort of buffer between himself and his supernatural attacker. Like new team members in seasons past, he'll probably find himself liking the team despite himself, which could lead to some conflict when they discover his true intent.

Airing Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Brandon Routh, Nick Zano, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Jes Macallan and Courtney Ford.
