Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam film apparently left Hawkgirl out of its version of the Justice Society of America on purpose.

Hawkman/Carter Hall actor Aldis Hodge says the absence of the character allowed creatives some wiggle room when it came to storylines beyond Teth Adam's first big screen appearance, which could include bringing the JSA favorite to the DC Extended Universe at a later date. "It would be amazing, but her not being there is intentional," he told The Direct. "We have room to grow. We are allowed to go further, and we can explore different avenues. Hopefully, that is one of the avenues that we do get to touch on. But, everything has a meaning and a purpose."

Black Adam Puts Hawkgirl on the Back Burner

Hodge couldn't go into much detail about why a Hawkgirl appearance eventually failed to manifest in Black Adam, but he added that it would have still been "awesome" to see the character burst onto screen alongside Hawkman. This isn't the first time that Hodge has expressed his hope for an appearance of the character, as he previously said that the two JSA characters he "definitely" wants to appear in the DCEU are Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific.

As it is, Johnson's Black Adam will come face-to-face with a JSA that consists of Hawkman, Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo). The JSA and its characters have been a source of constant speculation with a number of characters rumored to be appearing in the next installment of the DCEU. Stargirl/Courtney Whitmore was notably among those speculated to appear. However, the very existence of The CW Arrowverse-linked Stargirl series ended any involvement that the character might have in the film.

Black Adam is due to bring the story of Teth Adam to the big screen, seeing him bestowed with almighty powers from the gods in the times of ancient Kahndaq. Teth Adam is imprisoned for his abuse of the power when seeking vengeance, becoming Black Adam. 5,000 years later, after the titular character of the movie passed into legend, Black Adam is suddenly released from his prison. Awaking in a modern world, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by the heroes of today who have formed the Justice Society. But the question is will Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone be able to match the powers bestowed upon the newly-freed ancient prisoner?

Black Adam premieres in theaters on Oct. 21.
