Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's executive producer says actor Jonathan Majors is the embodiment of Kang the Conqueror.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Quantumania EP Brian Gay discussed his work on such Marvel Cinematic Universe projects as Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night on Disney+. On the topic of the next Ant-Man installment, Gay had nothing but praise for the versatility that the Lovecraft Country star brings to the MCU supervillain. "Jonathan is a phenomenal actor and comes in prepared and so thoughtful," Gay said.

"And I think part of the fun is that we got someone who is so talented that he can play as they say in Loki, the low keys and the high keys, and go across the whole range with him," Gay continued. "I'm so excited for everyone to see the incredible work he's done. I think that he's an incredible presence on the MCU. And when he steps on screen, you know that Kang is there. He gives that embodiment and that gravitas that's so focal to that character."

Kang the Conqueror made his initial Marvel Comics debut in Fantastic Four #19 (October 1963), but did not get officially introduced as Kang until The Avengers #8 (September 1964). He was the descendant of Reed Richards' father Nathaniel who discovers Dr. Doom's time-travel technology. After venturing to ancient Egypt to become Pharoah Rama-Tut, he was ultimately defeated by the Fantastic Four. He later became Kang after meeting Dr. Doom, created new armor and pit the Avengers against their alternate-reality variants.

Majors made his MCU debut as the Kang variant, He Who Remains, in Loki's season finale on Disney+. He formed the Time Variance Authority to prevent another Multiversial War like the one he had against his evil variants. He is killed by Sylvie after offering her and Loki a chance to take over the TVA.

With Quantumania on the horizon, MCU fans should expect Majors' Kang to be completely different from He Who Remains. "The character is different so you move a different way; my psychology has shifted because of the character. He's just a different guy," Majors said. "He Who Remains is not in Ant-Man. It's Kang. But the people surrounding us – the cast, my leading man, Paul Rudd – that's different. Because Paul's not Tom [Hiddleston]. This is a movie, not a TV show. I've been here since the beginning and I came in at the end on Loki."

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to premiere in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
