After it became a surprisingly bankable success at the box office, Wanted almost immediately lived up to its title as studio executives and moviegoers alike pined for a sequel. There was just one small problem — with the exception of James McAvoy's Wesley Gibson, practically every single character in the movie had died by the end of Wanted, leading lady Angelina Jolie's Fox included.

But plans to bring Fox back to life were publicly set in motion, with the franchise's producers and creative team stating that they had found a way to include Jolie in the developing sequel. Despite these plans, Jolie ultimately decided not to return for Wanted 2 — and now she's revealing why.

"Being dead makes it difficult," she told Coming Soon of her decision to leave Fox dead and buried. "They were [trying to bring me back] but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually. I'm that way, and that character is not as complex as Salt. It would just be doing the exact same thing in another movie, so it's not that interesting to me."

Jolie's departure paves the way for a new actress to occupy the female lead in Wanted 2, with some rumors pointing to Twilight actress Kristen Stewart as the frontrunner.
