Former Smallville actor and current Titans star Alan Ritchson has revealed why he will not be reprising his role as Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the Arrowverse's upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover.

In an interview with Collider, Ritchson confirmed he would not be appearing in The CW's highly-anticipated DC TV crossover event alongside fellow Smallville alums. Tom Welling and Erica Durance. However, he was approached regarding a return.

"They did reach out to me," said Ritchson, who currently plays the hero Hawk on DC Universe's Titans. "We tried to work it out. We were shooting and it was a very difficult schedule for us. We were shooting three episodes at once all the time. I would have had to leave the country and come back in to get a permit specifically for that show.

"I did want to participate," Ritchson continued. "We tried to work it out. I'm happy that everybody is getting to come back. I'm especially happy for the fans. That's why we do this. Those shows are like a bonanza for the fans. I wish I could have been a part of it."

Ritchson first appeared as Aquaman in Smallville's Season 5 episode "Aqua," later returning in Season 6's "Justice" -- which saw the formation of the series' version of the Justice League. He also popped up in Season 8's "Odyssey," and Season 10's "Patriot." Ritchson boarded the cast of Titans as Hank Hall/Hawk -- one half of the Hawk and Dove duo -- ahead of the DC Universe original series' debut last year.

"Crisis on Infinite Earths" begins Sunday, Dec. 8 on Supergirl, then continues in Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 and then picks up in The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10. After a winter hiatus, the crossover concludes on Tuesday, Jan. 14 on both Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
