The Pokémon franchise is now nine generations strong, having introduced around 1000 different Pokémon through various formats, from animated series and movies to numerous video games. Pokémon come in all shapes and sizes, types and personalities, and the concept of the Pokédex helps to document them and present them in a more familiar way.

Pokédex entries vary from the anime to the games, but can also vary from generation to generation. Some entries may highlight one part of a specific Pokémon's life, only for the next entry to describe something else. The Pokémon franchise has introduced plenty of scary, funny and outrageous Pokédex entries over the years, but there are also many wholesome ones. Wholesome Pokédex entries can come from many places, from the relationships within a species or towards humans, to describing habits or personality traits.

10 "It Wraps Its Ribbonlike Feelers Around The Arm Of Its Beloved Trainer And Walks With Him Or Her."

Sylveon - Alpha Sapphire

Sylveon uses Charm attack in Pokemon anime

Sylveon was introduced as a new Eevee evolution in Gen VI, and was also an introduction to the Fairy typing. Fairy Pokémon are often rooted in magical mysticism, wonder, and cuteness. Sylveon is certainly the latter.

Sylveon's Pokédex entries describe how it shows affection through its feelers, while also being capable of using them as a formidable weapon. Sylveon is used by Valerie in the X & Y anime and games, with her portraying the Fairy-type Eevee evolution essentially as the standard-bearer for the type.

9 "Thanks To Its Fervent Wishes, The Cells In Its Body Finally Mutated, And At Last It Has Its Heart's Desire - Wings."

Salamence - Ultra Moon

Sawyer's Salamence in Pokemon XY

As far as looks and its terrifying moveset go, Salamence doesn't look like a wholesome Pokémon. Yet several of its Pokédex entries, that don't talk about its rage and destruction, actually describe its joy regarding its ability to fly.

Salamence are documented across multiple games as having been dreamers since their first form Bagon. The concept of wings never seemed attainable to them, but it eventually grew into a desire and dream, achieved by evolving into the Dragon-Flying type, Salamence. Talk of dreaming and expressing joy at achieving said dreams is undeniably wholesome for such a feared Pokémon.

8 "It Shows No Interest In Anything That Isn't Fresh. If You Take It Shopping With You, It Will Help You Pick Out Ingredients."

Alolan Rattata - Ultra Sun

Alolan Rattata and Raticate in Pokemon

Seeing as the Alolan variant of Rattata is part Dark type, the preconception of this rodent Pokémon would suggest it was mischievous, and likely to steal for its own means. While this may not be completely false, the Ultra Sun Pokédex entry for Alolan Rattata implies that its obsession for fresh food can lead it to help humans while they're out shopping.

All the other Pokédex entries for this Pokémon across other games allude to stealing and swarms of them being a problem, but this one entry presents a scenario where Alolan Rattata and humans can share a common interest. This is a wholesome thought without properly considering everything else this Pokémon stands for.

7 "The Eggs It Lays Are Filled With Happiness. Eating Even One Bite Will Bring a Smile To Anyone."

Blissey - Platinum

Brock's Blissey in Pokémon Journeys

The Happiny line, also comprising Chansey and Blissey, are known to be the most caring Pokémon of the entire franchise. Chansey and Blissey in particular, often help Nurse Joy and other doctors throughout the anime. Brock even ended up with a Blissey of his own in the anime.

All of Blissey's Pokédex entries detail its kind nature, how it looks after the sick, and just generally tries to spread kindness and positive feelings. It is a Pokémon that everyone benefits from meeting, and it can even defuse conflicts and general anger long enough for those involved to calm down.

6 "Drampa Will Protect Kids When They're In Danger, So Their Moms Don't Have To Worry."

Drampa - Ultra Moon

Drampa with Lana and Mallow in Pokemon Sun & Moon

As the Placid Pokémon, Drampa is known for its wholesome tendencies. Its Pokédex entries for Moon, Ultra Moon, and Sword document how it will play with and look after children who live nearby. Yet these entries are but a part of Drampa's protective personality.

In fact, Sun, Ultra Sun, and Shield's Pokédex entries all opt to mention Drampa's angry side, which is only brought out under extreme circumstances, or if the children it's close to have been bullied. While drastic retaliation to bullying isn't the answer, those descriptions still reveal Darmpa's loyalty to the children, which is a wholesome concept in itself.

5 "It Visits Peaceful Regions, Bringing Them Gifts Of Kindness And Sweet Blessings."

Togekiss - HeartGold & SoulSilver

Togekiss loves peace in Pokemon

The Jubilee Pokémon Togekiss brings the cuteness of the Fairy typing, the aerial joys of Flying types, and the physical bulkiness that competitive Pokémon players adore. Togekiss is the total package, and its Pokédex entries hype it up as a symbol of peace and good fortune.

This comes as no real surprise, as it's the final evolution of the Togepi line, the original adorable Egg Pokémon. It's said that Togekiss doesn't appear where conflict and malice reside, which brings a hint of sadness with the Pokédex entries that describe how rare these Pokémon are.

4 "They've Been So Cherished That There's Now An Overabundance."

Lapras - Ultra Moon

Two Lapras attacking with ice beam in the Pokemon anime

Ever since its introduction back in Pokémon's first generation, Lapras has been described as an endangered species, a heartbreaking fact given the kind soul and nature of this Transport Pokémon. However, since Gen VII, Lapras' Pokédex entries have been veering away from talk of extinction. Instead, they focus on how they are thriving given the love they've received throughout the bad times.

Lapras are known for their love of humans, from transporting them across vast oceans to even understanding human speech. Lapras are the gentle souls that many humans don't deserve, and news of them thriving is welcome to everyone other than the fish they feast on.

3 "It's Very Friendly Toward People. If You Grow Close To It, Goodra Will Hug You With Its Sticky, Slime-Covered Body. Don't Get Mad."

Goodra - Ultra Sun

Ash's Goodra in Kalos, Pokemon XY

There are many Pokémon that love human interaction, but few that express that joy quite as much as Goodra. This Dragon type is more than capable of holding its own in a fight, but trainers also grow to adore it for its absent-mindedness. Goodra returns that adoration in kind, with a hug that may be wet and slimy, but is warm in its pure intentions.

Goodra's kindness got a good representation in the anime through Ash Ketchum's very own catch. The flip side of Goodra's attachment to humans is that it can get lonely when away from them, as documented in Pokémon Sun's Pokédex entry. Ash's Goodra however, had a purpose in leaving Ash as it was being left to look after its friends in a habitat it was comfortable in.

2 "Torchic Has A Place Inside Its Body Where It Keeps Its Flame. Give It A Hug — It Will Be Glowing With Warmth."

Torchic - Alpha Sapphire

Anime Pokemon Torchic Chews On Branch

Torchic got a good showing in the Ruby & Sapphire anime alongside May, as it grew alongside her from having zero strength or experience, to becoming a capable battler and Contest performer. Torchic's Pokédex entries talk about two main things: its fiery warmth and the fact that trainers should always hug it to find out for themselves.

There are other Pokémon that love human contact, but these Pokédex entries are actively encouraging players and trainers alike to hug their Torchic, as if their happiness depends on it. Torchic may evolve into the fan-favorite powerhouse that is Blaziken, but Torchic should be cherished at all times.

1 "It's Always Practicing Its Singing Because It Wants To Improve. Even When It's Asleep, It Keeps Singing In Its Dreams!"

Igglybuff - Ultra Sun

Two Igglybuff looking adorable in the Pokemon anime

All baby Pokémon are cute in their own ways, but Igglybuff leads the way, especially when armed with the adorable Pokédex entries it gets in every single game. These entries move between its bounciness, sweet aroma, but mainly its love of singing.

Its evolved form Jigglypuff is best known for its singing, especially in the anime, but the Igglybuff Pokédex entries state that the obsession starts early. Igglybuff are documented as trying to sing when they are dreaming or simply being hoarse from singing too much. It's undeniably wholesome to imagine this baby Pokémon bouncing around and singing.
