Ridley Scott's developing Alien prequels — yes, seems as if that's actually happening — is in search of a new female lead to fill the void left by a lack of Ellen Ripley. But who will occupy that role? For that answer, you might not have to look much further than Sweden.
Deadline reports that Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who famously portrayed Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its subsequent sequels, has met "and left a strong impression" with Scott and others involved with the Alien prequels. But she's not the only actress rumored for the gig, as Deadline notes that Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps star Carey Mulligan is also a possible contender.
Of the two, I'll throw my support behind Rapace. She was phenomenal as Salander, one of the most complicated and powerful female leads I've seen on screen in quite some time. If she can put that same dedication into the Alien franchise, Rapace might have two iconic leads to her name.
