Connections between the viewer and character, due to the theme of the show, typically center around political ideology and a certain stance on activism, but there are several other routes it generates viewer interest.
One such example is the zodiac. The composite traits that comprise each character in the show overlap beautifully with the ancient astrological chart, so fans can see which character they are most like. Listed below are each Code Geass character and their respective zodiac.
12 Aries: Lloyd Asplund
One of the most prominent traits of an Aries is their competitive nature and Lloyd personifies this trait effortlessly. Fully detached from the Britannian war effort, Lloyd only uses the global superpower, and the rigors of combat itself, to test his inventions.
Exhibiting exorbitant glee, despite how grim the situation may be, Lloyd's eagerness, another Aries trait, makes him come off as a morally bankrupt sociopath. However, to counterbalance his vacuum of compassion, Lloyd balances it with dynamic flair, also attributed to an Aries.
11 Taurus: Cornelia li Britannia
When introduced in the series, Cornelia's penchant for creativity on the battlefield is showcased. Taurus, the bull sign, is renowned for its creativity, albeit tempered through a lens of stubbornness. Cornelia's inflexibility, manifesting itself as the strength of the Taurus sign, is what allows her to be such an interesting adversary.
As the show progresses, the rough exterior of Cornelia fades, as the viewer is exposed to the gentle and sensual side, another Taurus trait, of her personality, as we see her sweetness towards Euphemia.
10 Gemini: Kallen Kōzuki
Most characters in Code Geass are living a double life, but Kallen carries this idea to the extreme, making her a perfect candidate for the twin sign Gemini.
Known for her expressive personality, when Kallen isn't hiding behind a veil of physical impairment, she's one of the most boisterous characters in all anime. Due to the duality of the sign, Geminis have heightened levels of versatility, granted from having a second perspective to view the problem, which is a trait Kallen has in spades.
9 Cancer: Kyoshiro Tohdoh
Valiantly standing as the last wave of Japanese resistance, Tohdoh fights to salvage the memories of Japan as a sovereign nation.
As a Cancer, Tohdoh is essentially predisposed to the very sentimentality that compels him to fight. On the battlefield, Tohdoh can tap into the intuitive nature of the Cancer sign, and interface with Knightmare frames in a manner that belies his experience with the weapon. Cancers, much like the nation of Japan, for which he acts in effigy, Tohdoh is relentless in his productivity.
8 Leo: Charles Zi Britannia
Besides the obvious correlation to the King of the Jungle, Charles zi Britannia, leader of the world's largest superpower, has more in common with the Leo sign. Known for being self-assured, Charles is dogmatic in his dream of remaking the world in his image.
Although the viewer is deprived of this trait within the anime, from what we're told of his earlier years, Charles also embodied the outgoing nature of the Leo, as well.
7 Virgo: C2
Relying on her wits to survive alone for decades, C2 was forced to develop the analytical mind associated with the Virgo sign. In addition to this aforementioned trait, Virgos are extremely loyal, as evidenced by C2 adherence to her contract with Lelouch.
No matter the scale of opposition confronting him, and consequently herself, C2 never falters at Lelouch's side. Dispensing with overt displays of violence, C2 also embodies the gentleness of the Virgo sign, as the viewer rarely ever see her engage in physical conflict.
6 Libra: Suzaku Kururugi
A staunch proponent of altering the warped system of Britannia from within, Suzaku, the son of Japan's last Prime Minister, easily personifies the diplomatic nature of the Libra sign.
Considerably more socially adjusted than his rival Lelouch, Suzaku also embodies the social and gracious elements of his astrological sign. As the series progresses, Suzaku does see the utility of Lelouch's perspective, but the lack of equity for all parties, attributed to the fairness of the sign, prevents him from joining his childhood friend in dismantling Britannia.
5 Scorpio: Lelouch Vi Britannia
Scorpios are enigmatic and passionate. Lelouch, series protagonist, expresses the depth of both of these traits before ever donning the iconic mask of his dark alter-ego, known as Zero.
Charged with the flames of rebellion, Lelouch exhibits another trait of the Scorpio sign by way of his stubbornness. The congruent inflexibility attributed to his father, direct antagonist, Charles zi Britannia. In regards to the animal totem, Lelouch is essentially the scorpion that injects the lethal venom in the veins of Britannia via his ideology.
4 Sagittarius: Rivalz Cardemonde
Although never a combatant in the war, Rivalz is one of the most memorable characters in the series, due to his openly Sagittarius traits. While Code Geass is never 100% morose, Rivalz is one of the sole spots of unwavering optimism.
Providing jolts of levity into the otherwise weighty anime, Rivalz embodies the humor of Sagittarius through his irrepressible extroversion - yet another trait of the Sagittarius sign. Although he fades from prominence in the latter half of the series, Rivalz Sagittarius energy remains throughout Geass.
3 Capricorn: Jeremiah Gottwald
As a proud and noticeably elitist Britannia citizen, Jeremiah is initially extremely unlikeable. However, as the show progresses, the viewer comes to admire his tenacious nature, which is attributed to the Capricorn sign.
Further down the line, Jeremiah uses the discipline attributed to Capricorn to seek revenge, which propels him from the antagonist side of the fence squarely into the beloved protagonist territory. Relying on the independence of the Capricorn sign, Jeremiah earns the viewer's respect by traveling his winding, redemptive journey alone.
2 Aquarius: Euphemia Li Britannia
Known as the water bearer sign, Euphemia, who spends her tenure in the series attempting to quell the flames of unrest, couldn't embody Aquarius any better if she tried. Of all the characters to best Lelouch intellectually, Euphemia is the only one to combat his rigid logic with idealism, by using the imaginative quality of the Aquarius sign.
Akin to other members of the Britannia family, Euphemia is as equally uncompromising, another Aquarius trait, as her aforementioned brother and father in her pursuit of peace.
1 Pisces: Nunnally Lamperouge
Spending a majority of the series in the periphery, Nunnally remains a pivotal character without ever truly becoming involved in the bloodshed. Consequently, the traits the viewer sees of Nunnally are almost exclusively that of the Pisces sign.
Whether it's her warm affectionate nature or her unyielding empathy, Nunnally has the full personality composition of a Pisces. For the viewer of Code Geass that feels more inclined to the arts, yet another Pisces trait, Nunnally is the perfect point of view character - no pun intended.
